There are many built-in integrated refrigerators. Today, we will focus on comparing Thermador and GE Monogram integrated refrigeration. But also keep in mind there are tons of other great products to consider from brands such as Gaggenau, Miele, Sub-Zero and Viking.
GE and Thermador are two popular names in refrigeration, but they have very different integrated refrigerators. We will look at the companies, their products and offer an honest opinion.
But first let us look at integrated refrigerators to answer any general questions you might have.
Quite simply, an integrated refrigerator has a depth of 24 inches or less, so it fits seamlessly and accentuates your cabinets.
Take a look at the other shallow built-in and overlay refrigerators. Although they can be paneled to match the cabinetry the doors and handles do protrude.
It is a nice, clean look in your kitchen, especially with great cabinets.
Another reason is energy efficiency. There are new energy guidelines on manufacturers. Integrated refrigeration is the most efficient because of their shallow profile. So in the very near future you will see smaller columns rather than bigger refrigerators.
So let’s look at the brands.
GE Monogram is the premium luxury appliance line of the GE appliance company, now owned by Haier of China. They are mainly sold to builders.
GE was the first company after Sub-Zero with built-in refrigerators and the first with a 42 inch professional refrigerator. They have been late to integrated refrigerators. In fact, a quick scan stills show only two 30 inch models.
Yale does not sell any GE products nor has any immediate plans to do so.
Thermador is the fastest growing luxury line of appliances. It is high quality, but also highly promoted. They have a rebate program of free dishwashers and hoods with qualifying purchases.
Thermador also originated the integrated column with an all refrigerator or all freezer in 18”, 24”, and 30”.
We will be comparing their most popular 36” French door refrigerator and freezer against the GE Monogram similarly priced unit.
Let’s take a look.

Which Should You Buy?
First, integrated means less depth. It’s a nice look but not a ton of overall cubic footage. So you need to be very cognizant of cubic footage. The GE is only 14 cubic foot versus Thermador 20 cubic foot. A 30 inch integrated is designed for just 2 people whereas the Thermador can be at least 4.
Thermador is French door so the shorter doors will be better if you are planning an island. They also have their 1, 2, Free promotion with free dishwashers and hoods for qualified purchases.
